NDIS Quarterly Report (December 2024): A Stronger, More Inclusive Future Ahead!
The latest NDIS Quarterly Report (December 2024) provides promising news for Australians with disabilities. It showcases how ongoing reforms are shaping a more sustainable and participant-focused future. With over 692,000 individuals now receiving support, 19,000 of whom joined in just the last quarter, the Scheme continues to expand its reach. A Positive Economic Shift
NDIS reforms are generating economic dividends in a measurable way. Over the last six months, Scheme expenses totaled $22.9 billion - $390 million below original forecasts. This favorable trend is projected to lower total expenditures by $19.3 billion by 2028, keeping the road to long-term viability.
Furthermore, the year-on-year growth rate, which now falls from 18.9% to 11.9%, represents a major step to financial sustainability. This follows further efficiencies in operating cost growth, with a target of 8% to be achieved by 2026-27, demonstrating that the NDIS is now on a strong trajectory of balancing growth with long-term sustainability.
Real Impact: A Better Life for Participants
But it’s not just about numbers, it’s about people. Breakout rooms and other initiatives have enhanced participant experiences, making it easier for individuals to engage and connect. More participants are now reporting increased social participation (43%, up from 35%), and employment rates among young participants (aged 15-24) have more than doubled, from 10% to 23%. These changes show the NDIA's focus on empowering individuals, driving accessibility, and delivering equity for all.
A Commitment to Progress
NDIA CEO Rebecca Falkingham reaffirmed this mission, emphasizing that the NDIS remains an important part of Australia’s commitment to fairness and inclusion.
“We are continuing our work with people with disabilities to ensure the NDIS is delivering the best outcomes possible for participants, while improving the sustainability of the world-leading scheme. “We know there is more work to do to further strengthen the NDIS – we are absolutely committed to continuing to do this in partnership with the disability community.”
